SESRIC launched the 2018 Edition of the OIC Water Report during the 4th Session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water

SESRIC launched the 2018 edition of the OIC Water Report during the Fourth Session of the Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water, held in Cairo, Egypt during 14-16 October 2018. The Conference takes place every two years with the participation of the ministers concerned with water and focuses on water issues in the OIC Countries.

During the presentation of the Report SESRIC pointed out the great water risks the OIC Countries are facing. However, it emphasized also the fact that these risks are not insurmountable. The Centre stressed the fact that the OIC Countries are guided by the noble Islamic values of unity, fraternity and solidarity, which provide an extraordinary opportunity to work together to ensure a water-secure future for all.

The 2018 Edition of the Report is themed “Transforming Risks into Dialogue and Cooperation” and highlights the current state and the challenges the OIC countries are facing in the domain of water. Moreover, the Report addresses water security and peace in OIC countries and explores ways how to transform risk into opportunities for cooperation; it identifies water-related needs and priorities in the Member States, evaluates the current state of implementation the OIC Water Vision and provides further policy discussion and implications.

The delegates attending the Conference welcomed the Report and expressed their confidence that it will contribute significantly to the body of knowledge in the OIC Member States in the domain of water.

The Report will contribute to the decision-making process in the OIC Member States through formulating appropriate policies and strategies, which will allow them to address the water challenges.
